Ingmar Bergman’s Estate

Diana Morales Properties is proud to announce that Christie’s Great Estates was chosen this past June to provide international marketing for the private residence of three-time Academy Award-winning director Ingmar Bergman.

The property is located in the stunning Baltic Island of Fårö off the coast of Gotland, Sweden, which offers a timeless breathtaking landscape with a mixture of rocky and sandy coasts, wild strawberries and red poppies and offering absolute tranquillity and privacy.

As the New York Times put it “Like Bergman, Fårö is remote. Getting to the island, off the eastern coast of Sweden, takes a plane, a train or a bus, a car and two ferries. Which is exactly what made it so appealing to the reclusive Bergman.”

Bergman first visited Fårö in 1960 while searching for a location to shoot “Through a Glass Darkly“. He was so enticed by the island that he decided to move there. The property was designed by architect Kjell Ambramson in close collaboration with Bergman himself. It was completed in 1967 and was the director’s getaway for nearly 40 years until he passed away last summer. Bergman used his home as the set for some of his most revered films, including “The Passion of Anna”, “Persona” or “The Shame”. Nearby is the city of ‘roses and ruins’, Visby, which offers great dining, romance and historic strolls and offers the perfect compliment to Bergman’s legacy in Fårö.
